Scripture doesn't give a flat yes-or-no rule for "miracles today," but it does show a consistent pattern worth naming honestly.
In Acts, healings and signs cluster around the apostolic preaching of the risen Christ — Peter healing the lame man "in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth" (Acts 3:6), the church praying that God would keep stretching out his hand "to heal... through the name of your holy Servant Jesus" (Acts 4:30). Even hostile onlookers "can't deny it" (Acts 4:16). These aren't presented as random wonders; they're tied to the announcement that Jesus is alive and this name has authority.
Paul, writing to a church already full of gifts, asks rhetorically, "Are all miracle workers?" (1 Corinthians 12:29) — the expected answer is no. Miracle-working is listed as one gift among several, given to some, not a universal Christian experience, and not something anyone can conjure on demand.
There's also warning built into the record. Jesus rebukes sign-seeking as a substitute for faith: "Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will in no way believe" (John 4:48). And Psalm 74:9 records a season of felt absence: "We see no miraculous signs... neither is there among us anyone who knows how long." Scripture itself admits that God's active, visible intervention isn't evenly distributed across every era — sometimes his people are in a stretch where wonders aren't happening and they know it.
So the text doesn't promise miracles as a steady feature of Christian life, nor does it say they stopped. It ties them to God's own timing and purpose, gives some believers such gifts and not others, and warns against making signs the basis of faith rather than the person of Christ himself.
